Prime Minsters Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP)

The Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) is a flagship initiative by the Government of India to stimulate employment generation through micro-enterprise establishments in the non-farm sector. Administered by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), PMEGP merges the two schemes that were in operation prior to 2008, namely, the Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP) and the Prime Minister's Rojgar Yojana (PMRY). The program offers financial assistance to budding entrepreneurs and supports them in setting up new micro-enterprises and small projects. It prioritizes marginalized groups, including women, SC/ST, and differently-abled individuals, ensuring inclusive economic growth. Overall, PMEGP plays a crucial role in promoting self-employment opportunities, bolstering the MSME sector, and reducing unemployment across the country.
