Public Distribution System (PDS)

The Public Distribution System (PDS) is a governmental food security program in India, managed by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution. It distributes essential commodities like rice, wheat, and kerosene at subsidized rates to eligible beneficiaries through a network of fair price shops. The system aims to provide food essentials to economically vulnerable sections of society, ensuring they have access to basic necessities. Leveraging the National Food Security Act (NFSA) of 2013, the PDS covers a significant portion of the Indian population, playing a critical role in preventing hunger and malnutrition.
